Whistler was awesome!
As most everyone knows, Whistler was where Larry and I
went for our first ski vacation after he had learned to ski two years ago. We were planning on capping off our first day of skiing at a Rolling Stones concert in Vancouver.
Larry, who saw Elvis, The Beatles, and every other group you can think of wanting to see at some point, had never seen the Stones. Neither had I. We were looking forward to it. Until I broke my leg on my first real run of the day - at a spot like the one in this
photo. Sooo… Larry still gloats that he skied Whistler and I couldn't. And we still have never seen the Stones live.
This time, we had three days of great skiing. Well, one day
of great skiing and two challenging days. But we're happy to report that no bones were broken this time!
Ron and Marla Westberg, friends from Gisèle's Polaroid years, were wonderful ski and vacation companions. We had a wonderful day skiing all over Whistler in bright sunshine
on Sunday. Followed by two days of trying to find places to ski that weren't in the clouds, rain, or snow. We weren't too successful, but had fun anyway. It's awfully challenging
to ski when you can barely see your own ski tips in the fog.
Arnie didn't get too much skiing in, although he did join us at the top of Whistler for breakfast and "Fresh Tracks" on Tuesday
morning. Larry skied more than he has all year. He claims to have aches and pains in places he didn't even know he had places.
All in all, a great start to what we hope will be a truly wonderful (I hesitate to say
memorable since broken bones are very memorable!) vacation.
Three days in Honolulu next to warm up and soak away the sore muscles in the warm Pacific
waters. Or so we thought...
